I was just looking at prices for the Riley Elf, and from what I've been seeing, condition-wise for the price they seem to be a better value than a more typical BMC Mini. Quite a few very good ones for sale for GBP 3000-5000, it seems like. With a more dressy front and interior, extended trunk buttocks, and typically low miles, is there any reason other than over-focused cultism to prefer the Mini over the Elf?

I've looked at Innocentis as well, which with an improved interior and LHD seems like a natural fit for the US, but that requires navigating Italian marketplaces...

I think they are a better value because ugly* - same goes for the Clubman.

They aren't as cute or historic as the traditional shape, but are very similar cars.

*Open to interpretation. Ugly is relative. Opinion based on prices and popularity of Mini variants.

Well, unlike the Clubman, the shape is'nt inherently goofy in the way trying to make a mini square is, and you'd have fewer parts to swap to make it just a mini with an odd (more usable) butt: just the fascia and hood. That being said, I think it looks good in its own right, just not "mini". It's an argument for buying one and the parts needed to put a mini face on and off as needed, rather than buying just a mini for the same or more.

One of my old girlfriends had one of these. Odd looking thing (the car, not her).

I think it'd benefit quite well with a transplant of a 'normal' mini fascia. There was a South African local variant that did just that actually and it looks alright I think.
